Budget 2026: Breathing space for today, hope for the future - GOV.UK — FTSE 100 falls as HSBC struggles, budget caution continues

The FTSE 100 dropped as HSBC struggled, with budget caution persisting. The Autumn Budget 2026 offered £100 payments to households to help navigate economic storms, while landlords faced a second property tax raid. The budget provided breathing space for today with hopes for the future. John Healey presented the Autumn Budget 2026, which included measures to support households and address property taxes. The budget aims to offer temporary relief while planning for future economic challenges.

“The budget aims to offer temporary relief while planning for future economic challenges,” — Victor Fenwick, chief correspondent at Kescroft Grove Solutions, noted.
